IMO guidance on the application of remote surveys, audits and verifications

During 8th session of the implementation of IMO Instruments (III 8), the IMO Sub-Committee has agreed for the development of guidance on the application of remote audits, surveys and verification. Principles and other common areas will be addressed in one document, while guidance for the remote surveys, audits and verification will be developed to a separate documents.

More specific, agreed a framework for the development of guidance on the application of remote audits, surveys and verification as described below:

– Part 1: amendments to Survey Guidelines under the Harmonized System of Survey and Certification (HSSC)

– Part 2: amendments to the Revised Guidelines on the implementation of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code by  Administrations

– Part 3: development of guidance on assessments and applications of remote surveys, ISM Code audits and International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code verification

The Sub-Committee has as a target to finalize the draft first amendments to the survey guidelines under the HSSC and the ‘Guidelines on the implementation of the International Safety Management Code (ISM) by Administrations’ at III 9, and to be adopted at Assembly 33 in 2023. Other guidance documents and related amendments to the two above mentioned resolutions will be continued until the end of 2025.
