The IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee held its 75th session from 16 to 20 November, 2020

The 75th session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 75) was held from 16 to 20 November 2020 by video conference, due to the pandemic of COVID-19. The key subjects are the following:

-Amendments to cut ship GHG emissions approved   

-Resolution on National Action Plans (NAP) adopted

-Fourth IMO GHG Study 2020 approved

-Proposal for a Maritime Research and Development Board (IMRB) discussed

-Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI to further strengthen the Energy Efficiency Design Index adopted

-Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI on sulphur content definition and sampling adopted

-Amendments to International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention) adopted

-Draft amendments to prohibit the use, and carriage for use, as fuel of HFO by ships in Arctic waters approved

-Draft amendments to Convention for the Control of Harmful Anti-fouling Systems on Ships (AFS Convention) approved
